Privacy Policy
FilmTone is a film-tone photo & video editor. We designed it to work entirely on your device. Your photos and videos never leave your phone unless you explicitly share them. This policy describes exactly what information FilmTone uses, why, and how to control it.
1. Operator & contact
Operator: FilmTone team (TN Media). Contact: support@phomate.pro.vn. We are an independent indie team based in Vietnam.
2. FilmTone does not require an account
FilmTone is fully usable without signing up. We do not ask for an email, phone number, name, or social account. There is nothing to log in to. All of your edits, favorites, and preferences live in your device's local storage.
3. Permissions we request, and only for the feature that needs them
| Permission | Why FilmTone asks | What we receive |
|---|---|---|
| Photo library (read) | So you can pick a photo or video to edit, or import a batch. | Nothing leaves your device. Files are processed locally. |
| Photo library (write / save) | To save your edited photo, Story Card, or short video back to the gallery. | We write the file only. We don't read existing photos with this permission. |
| Camera | For in-app capture (Vibe Roll feature) so you can shoot directly into FilmTone. | The frame stays on device. We don't stream the camera anywhere. |
| Microphone | Voice-over recording for the video editor. | Audio is encoded locally into your exported video. Nothing is uploaded. |
| Speech recognition (iOS only) | Auto-generate Vietnamese captions from your video's voice track. | Recognition runs via Apple's on-device / cloud speech API per Apple's policy. We never see the audio or transcript. |
You can deny any of these. The corresponding feature is then disabled until you grant it; the rest of the app keeps working.
4. Third-party SDKs we include and what they collect
We use a small set of SDKs so the app can ship as a free product while still letting us pay for hosting and tooling.
4.1 Google Firebase (Core, Analytics, Cloud Firestore)
Provider: Google LLC. Data collected by Firebase Analytics: an app instance ID (random, reset by uninstall), country/region (derived from IP, not stored as IP), device model, OS version, app version, coarse usage events (screen views, app opens, IAP events). Cloud Firestore is used only for reading the daily Vibe of the Day catalog and KOL preset packs - we do not write any of your data there. Firebase data is processed according to Firebase's Privacy Information.
4.2 Google AdMob
Provider: Google LLC. AdMob collects an advertising identifier (Apple IDFA or Google Advertising ID), device coarse geolocation, and ad interaction events so it can serve and measure ads. We use AdMob in four ways inside FilmTone, all gated on you being on the free tier:
- Rewarded video — when you tap a Pro preset and choose "Watch video to unlock", we play a rewarded video. Two completions permanently unlock that preset.
- App-open ad — a single full-screen ad shown when you return to FilmTone after being away for at least four minutes. Not shown on first launch, not shown to Pro subscribers, not shown while another ad is on screen.
- Interstitial — a full-screen ad shown at natural breakpoints such as after you export an edit. At most once every few minutes, never during active editing.
- Native ad — a small in-feed ad inside the Pack Store list, clearly labeled "Ad" by Google's SDK.
You can opt out at any time: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising; Android Settings → Google → Ads. FilmTone Pro removes all four ad types. See Google's partner privacy policy.
4.3 Apple App Store / Google Play in-app purchases
Subscriptions (FilmTone Pro Monthly / Yearly) and credit packs are processed by Apple or Google directly. FilmTone receives only the purchase receipt needed to unlock entitlements. We never see your card details, billing address, or store account. See Apple's privacy policy and Google's privacy policy.
5. What FilmTone does NOT do
- We do not upload your photos, videos, edits, or projects to any server.
- We do not run any user-account system - there is nothing for us to lose.
- We do not request your contacts, calendar, location, or health data.
- We do not sell or share personal information with brokers.
- We do not show banner ads. Free users see opt-in rewarded video, occasional interstitials at natural breakpoints (e.g. after export), an app-open ad after long absences, and a clearly labeled native ad in the Pack Store. FilmTone Pro removes all four.
6. Children
FilmTone is rated 4+ / Everyone. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The only data Firebase / AdMob receive is the coarse, non-identifying telemetry described above.
7. Your rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Even though we don't hold a user account, you still have these rights over the limited telemetry above:
- Access — ask what's tied to your install (we'll tell you it's basically the app instance ID).
- Erase — uninstalling FilmTone deletes the app instance ID and all local data. To also opt out of future ad personalization, reset the Advertising ID in your OS settings.
- Object — disable analytics by uninstalling, or disable personalized ads in OS settings.
- Do Not Sell / Share (CCPA) — we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of beyond personalized ads (above).
To exercise any right, email support@phomate.pro.vn. We respond within 7 business days.
8. Data retention
Local content (edits, projects, favorites) lives on your device for as long as the app is installed. Firebase / AdMob keep telemetry per their own retention policies (typically 14 months for analytics, shorter for ad data). Apple / Google keep purchase records as required by applicable accounting law (6+ years in Vietnam) in anonymized form.
9. Changes to this policy
We'll update the "Last updated" date above when this policy changes. Material changes will also be announced in the app's release notes.
